El Tió de Nadal


In Europe there are many different Christmas traditions. In Poland we are waiting for the first star in the sky to start the Christmas Eve. After the dinner we look for the gifts under the Christmas tree which the Star brings us. What about the Catalan Christmas tradition? 
In Catalonia the gifts brings the Christmas log - cat. el Tió de Nadal. It is made from the wood and always wears the traditional Catalan hat. The children take care of him, give him food and put the blanket so he's not cold. Later, they sing the song and bit him with sticks and they ask him to shit the gifts:

"Caga tió,
caga torró,
avellanes i mató,

si no cagues bé 

et daré un cop de bastó.

caga tió!"
Shit, log,
shit nougats (turrón),
hazelnuts and mató cheese,
if you don't shit well,
I'll hit you with a stick,
shit, log!

 I have no doubt that the Catalan Christmas tradition is the most orginal and funny in Europe :D

Delta de l'Ebre - The kingdom of birds

In Catalunya there are a lot of places where you can relax and forget about all your problems. In my opinion, the most beautiful one is The Ebro Delta. If you need a rest I recommend you to visit this nature  reserve. It's even more interesting for all of you who love observe nature and, above all, birds. La Senyera and La Estelada

La Senyera is the Catalan flag. It is one of the most important symbols of that autonomous community of Spain. You can see it everywhere when you are in Catalonia, in big cities and in villages. The Catalans are very proud of it. There is also another flag, La Estelada which is a little different from the senyera. The senyera pattern is currently in the flag of four Spanish autonomous communities: Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Isles and the Valencian Country and is the flag of the historically Catalan-speaking city of Alghero in Sardinia.
